HOD's Message

Welcome to the Information Engineering (IE) Division website!

Computer Engineering and Digital Media Processing are the key technologies that drive today’s digital world. The smart phones (e.g. iPhone), tablets (e.g. iPad), ultra-thin notebook, gaming consoles (e.g. XBOX Kinnect), 3D TVs, digital cameras, teleconferencing system, and many others, are something that you use everyday. It is hard to imagine the world without these devices, and digital connectivity is not possible. The IE division provides a broad based education on Computer Engineering specialization and Digital Media Processing specialization, both under the Infocommunication Engineering Option. Our mission is to equip students with the latest know-how and technologies in Information Engineering. Progressively, we are moving towards new teaching pedagogies that can help students better appreciate the importance of digital technologies, and instill students’ interest to learn more. Also, new interactive tools will be introduced to engage students in this new learning experience!

In postgraduate education and research activities, the IE division also plays a leading role in the strategic research areas of digital media processing and data analytics, which are critical technologies, serving different sectors, like defence, media, biometric, and semiconductor. Our faculty members are actively working on cutting-edge research and received research grants from National Research Foundation, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Educations, and ASTAR. We also work closely with several IT companies, like IBM, Microsoft, Philips, Panasonics, ST Electronics, Texas Instruments, and many others. As R&D is taking center stage in the Singapore economy, there are now more research career opportunities. The outlook for information engineering is very bright with many different interactive digital media based companies setting up R&D departments here. Also, with the government plan in setting up Mediapolis @ one-north, which is Singapore’s first digital media hub, we expect to see a strong growth in media related manpower requirement in the coming years. We welcome you to join us in our MSc in Signal Processing program, as well as many exciting PhD research projects in the IE division. Currently, the division has 28 faculty members, 39 research staff, and 101 PhD students. We welcome you to be part of our dynamic team!

I hope you will find useful information in this website and give us your valuable feedback.
